Meet Onyx Property Consultant’s Founder: Bespoke Property Agents In London

Onyx Property Consultants are bespoke property agents that offer tailor-made buying searches, sales, lettings and property management for residential properties in London.

Founded by Ugo Arinzeh in 2012, Ugo started her real estate investment career in the US at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. She later moved to London working for an international architecture practice before founding her firm Onyx Property Consultants.

Onyx is unique in the sense that it is the only agency in London to offer a one-stop-shop – a bespoke property service that not only represents buyers, sellers and letting clients (landlords and tenants), but also offers interior design and property management.

As part of our #WomenInSMEs campaign, we chatted to Ugo about her journey moving to the UK, and experience setting up a business as a female entrepreneur.

1. Hi Ugo, thanks for taking part in our campaign. Can you start with why you started your business, can you tell us about the journey?

Having moved to London from America, I saw a gap in the residential property market, especially for buyers, and felt that my background and passion for property put me in a unique position to fill that gap. My background was in corporate investment banking as well as having been a property investor, I wanted to offer both those skills to my clients.

2. Greatest successes and challenges in business to date?

Starting a business in a foreign country! Challenges include the disappointments of not winning every deal, especially the ones you really want and really think you can help. Also growing a business is tough and you need to constantly work on your mindset and your value proposition.

3. We couldn’t agree more! On that note, what would be your biggest piece of advice to female entrepreneurs just starting out in business?

Make sure that mindfulness, purpose and coaching are part of your routine (no matter how skilled you are). You don’t know what you don’t know and you need to surround yourself with people that can support and help you. Also work every day on being confident and being your own biggest cheerleader!

4. Thanks Ugo. Why were you drawn to the campaign, can you offer a comment on why you think it’s important?

Data shows how under represented female owned businesses are in terms of success but how valuable they are in terms of contribution to society and their communities. Women tend to be good at supporting each other and I’m delighted to be part of such a worthwhile campaign.
